Natac visits the IRTA facilities where salmon smoltification and sampling were conducted

The Natac team, represented by José Carlos Quintela (CSO) and José María Pinilla (Project Manager), visited the IRTA (Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology) facilities in Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Catalonia, where salmon smoltification and subsequent sampling have been conducted.

The IRTA team, led by Enric Gisbert (head of the Aquaculture Programme), has carried out salmon smoltification at the facilities (a transformation process that salmon undergo when moving from fresh to salt water), as well as subsequent surveys on the salmon’s health.

These surveys are used to validate the properties of the product’s bioactive compounds and the Aquolive’s performance when it comes to salmon health. The results obtained in these tests allow evaluation of the product’s effects on salmon in these stages of growth and the ways in which it aids marine farm yields.
